I Hate You Just Kidding formed in Los Angeles around 2014, with Oliver Bell on vocals and Jake Bateman on guitar. They later added Ethan Roberts on bass and Max Ashen on drums. Their 2017 single "My Little Dove" got some attention online, which helped them reach more listeners.
But that didn't seem to bother their fans much. Over time, Bell's songwriting became more introspective, and the band started exploring different musical directions beyond their initial indie rock and pop blend.
They've released several songs since "My Little Dove," including "Untitled" and "Sun-Dried Tomatoes." The band keeps working without much fanfare about redemption arcs or dramatic transformations.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
