Iamnotshane is the project of singer-songwriter Shane Meadows, who started making music as a bedroom producer in Peterborough, England. In 2019, he released his debut EP, which included the song "Maybe My Soulmate Died." That track, along with others like "What a Perfect Day For Crying" and "I'm Leaving, Sorry For Your Loss," deals plainly with grief and isolation.
His first album came out in 2020 under the title "Inspired by True Events." The music often blends indie and electronic elements, with lyrics that touch on mental health and addiction without much ornament. Some listeners found it too melancholic, while others connected with its directness.
Later EPs like "Missing You" and "last time" showed him working with a fuller band sound and incorporating touches of pop and R&B. The songs remain focused on emotional terrain, titles like "Feelings and How to Destroy Them" and "One Less Year Alive" give a fair idea of the territory.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
