Ic 434 formed in 2012, taking their name from an astronomical designation for a nebula. The group included Elias Kaaren on guitar and synthesizer, Julia Kent on cello, and Vincent Oliver on drums. Their 2016 album "Albatross" brought them wider attention with its blend of electronic textures and more organic instrumentation.

Their music often combined experimental electronic elements with Kent's cello work, creating atmospheric pieces like "Approaching The Woods" and "Deadpit." The 2018 album "Sliver of Silver" continued this approach, followed by 2021's "Unseen Breath." Their catalog shows a consistent interest in ambient and experimental forms rather than conventional song structures.
