Icky Blossoms formed in Los Angeles around 2005 with Chloe Chaidez on vocals and rhythm guitar, Jesse Perlman on lead guitar, Chris Reimer on bass, and Kevin Day on drums. Their early shows had a rough, unpolished quality that mixed punk and garage rock with more experimental touches. The song 'Cycle' came out of one of those early club performances and became a defining track for them.
'Cycle' appeared as the lead single on their 2007 debut album 'The Joy of Pain.' It helped build them a following and led to touring slots with acts like The Smashing Pumpkins and Nine Inch Nails. They put out three more albums over the next decade: 'Elegy for a Lost Eden' in 2010, 'The Death of Romance' in 2013, and 'The Unseen' in 2017.
Their sound kept shifting across those records, pulling in elements of grunge, shoegaze, and electronic music. Songs like 'Heat Lighting,' 'Stark Weather,' and 'Sex To The Devil' show that restless, layered approach. Chaidez's lyrics often dealt with mental health, addiction, and social pressure, which sometimes drew criticism alongside their more abrasive musical experiments.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
