Ideais do Forró formed in 1996 in Parnamirim, Pernambuco, with José Maria on vocals and accordion, Eraldo on bass, and Zé do Bode on drums. They released their debut album in 2000, which included the track 'Herança do Meu Vô' that became popular in Brazil.
In 2007, bassist Eraldo was arrested for an alleged assault, and in 2012, drummer Zé do Bode left the group.
After these changes, the band continued with José Maria joined by Totonho on bass and Beto Cajon on drums. They've released over 15 studio albums, including 'Forró Protestão' in 2004 and 'Tempo de Luta' in 2011.
