Ideia Absoluta formed in the late 1960s with Zé Rodrix on vocals and guitar, Jards Macalé on bass, and Franklin da Flauta on drums. Their debut album came out in 1969, and the track "6/6 (Seis Do Seis)" became something of an anthem for the Brazilian counterculture at the time.
Their sound was experimental for the era, blending rock with Brazilian elements in a way that challenged some of the country's musical traditions. They released a few more albums in the early 1970s, like "A Vida É Uma Flor" and "Direção Certa," before the lineup began to shift. Macalé left in 1971, and other musicians like drummer Duda Neves and keyboardist J.T. Meirelles came through the band.
Their lyrics often touched on social and political themes, which sometimes brought them into conflict with authorities. They worked with other musicians from that scene, including Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil. Songs like "Amor Perfeito" and "O Sol" show the band's range beyond their most famous track.
