Idlework formed in Dublin in 2001, with Mark Kelly on vocals and Dave Odlum on guitar. They added bassist Cormac Mac Diarmada and drummer Paul Walsh, and put out a self-released EP the following year. That early recording had a raw, melancholic feel that caught some attention.
Their debut album 'The Key' arrived in 2005, and its single 'Don't Call My Name' became a hit in Ireland. The song's success brought them wider recognition, though some listeners felt the band had moved away from their earlier sound. They kept making albums after that, staying with their introspective approach.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
