Ignition formed in New Orleans in the early 2000s, a trio with Craig Broussard on lead vocals, Kevin McKenzie on background vocals and percussion, and Terrell Babineaux on background vocals and keyboards. They put out their first album in 2003, simply called 'Ignition,' and followed it with 'For the Love of R&B' in 2004 and 'Superhero' in 2006.
Their debut single 'Lucky Thirteen' came out in 2003 and did well on the R&B charts. It's one of the songs people still know, along with 'Proven Hollow' and 'One Sided.' Their music had a straightforward R&B feel with soulful vocals and steady rhythms.
In 2005, McKenzie was arrested on drug charges and left the group for a while. They kept going after that, touring and putting out records. Their songs often dealt with love and everyday situations, delivered in a style that felt familiar to R&B listeners without trying to reinvent the wheel.
