Igreja Batista do Morumbi

Igreja Batista do Morumbi began as a musical group within a Baptist church in São Paulo's Morumbi neighborhood around 1972. Pastor Clovis Silveira was involved with the musicians, who wanted to create contemporary Christian music that might connect with younger listeners. Their first album, 'O Verbo Virou Gente,' came out in 1975 and included the title track that became widely known in Brazilian churches.

Their songs like 'Vida e Luz' and 'Coroai o Rei Dos Reis' blended traditional hymn elements with pop and folk sounds. The lyrics often dealt directly with faith themes, though some church figures questioned their use of secular musical styles.

Over time, different musicians participated, including Elvis Tavares on vocals and Marcos Salles on guitar. They recorded several albums through the 1970s and 1980s, with 'Tudo Novamente' in 1976 and a self-titled release in 1982. Their music remained part of the conversation about how Christian messages could be expressed in contemporary Brazilian culture.
