III Opus formed in Vienna in the early 1980s, with Ernst Lanzer, Kurt Hauenstein, and Nino Holm coming together around a synth-pop sound that had some rock and classical touches. Their name came from the idea of music as a third masterpiece in life. The track "Life Is Life" from their 1985 debut album became their calling card, an upbeat synth-pop piece that found listeners internationally.
They followed that debut with albums like "Eleven" in 1987 and "Play with Fire" in 1989, continuing to work in their particular style. Other songs like "Dreaming Of Now" and "Evolution Rush" show the range they explored within their synth-driven approach. Lanzer's falsetto vocals were a recognizable part of their sound.
The band maintained a somewhat separate position from the mainstream pop of the era, partly by choice and partly due to their specific musical blend.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
