Ildomar Martins

Ildomar Martins came up in Ouricuri, Pernambuco, born in 1974. He taught himself guitar and singing, picking up the local forró and baião sounds without much formal training. His first real break came around 2000 with 'Meus Cavalos,' a song about horses and the open country that caught on across Brazil.

He kept recording after that, putting out albums like 'Forró de Paixão' in 2002 and 'O Vaqueiro Chamegado' two years later. Other tracks like 'Essência Nativa' and 'Pelos Caminhos do Sul' followed a similar vein, straightforward, guitar-driven music rooted in the northeast. He worked with a few established names like Fagner and Elba Ramalho along the way.

Some of his lyrics touched on rougher social ground, which stirred up occasional debate. The writing stayed plain and regional, never drifting too far from the themes and rhythms he started with.
