Ilegales formed in Madrid in the early 1980s, led by vocalist and guitarist Jorge Martínez. Their breakthrough came with the 1991 album "A lo cortico," which pushed them toward mainstream Spanish rock. Songs like "Fiesta Caliente" and "Que Mal Huelen Los Muertos" became staples of their live sets, built around a straightforward rock and roll energy that felt both raucous and direct.
But the band kept touring Spain and Latin America, releasing records like "Vamos a celebrarlo" in 1993 and "El Norte está lejos" in 1995. The core lineup stayed fairly steady, with Martínez joined by bassist Willy Vijande and drummer Juan Carlos "El Oso" Martínez.
Later albums, such as 2017's "Regreso al sexo químicamente puro," showed them still writing and recording. Ilegales never really polished away their rough edges, and that unvarnished quality is what their fans have always responded to.
