Ilha Groove formed in Salvador, Bahia in 1999, drawing from local pagode and axé rhythms. Their self-titled debut album came out that same year, with Alexandre Carlota handling vocals. The band's sound mixed Brazilian genres with pop and funk touches, and songs like 'Aonde Você For' and 'Se Você Não Vê' became familiar on Brazilian radio.
In 2006, 'Aonde Você For' was at the center of plagiarism accusations, which led to a temporary break. The group kept recording, putting out albums like 'Na Terra dos Gigantes' in 2002 and 'Samba Heavy' in 2007. They worked with artists including Ivete Sangalo and Carlinhos Brown.
By 2014, they had released seven studio albums, the last being 'Viva a Vida.' That same year, a legal dispute resulted in their lead guitarist leaving. The lineup settled with Carlota on vocals, Ricardo Silveira on bass, Sergio Melo on guitar, Leo Reis on drums, and Bruno Aragão on keyboards.
