Illegal 2001 formed in 1998 in Louny, with Petr Fider on vocals, Jan Kolomazník on guitar, Ondřej Hajzl on bass, and Milan Javorský on drums. Their debut album came out in 2001, sharing the band's name. The track "A7" from that record became a Czech hit, a song about lost love that stuck around for years.
They kept putting out albums through the 2000s, like "Srdcebeat" in 2003 and "Na cestě" in 2005. Their sound moved between rock, pop, and some electronic touches. Other songs people remember include "Alles Aus Liebe" and "Besoffen Von Dir."
Fider's lyrics sometimes dealt with social issues, which drew some criticism. His personal life and a legal case also got attention in the press. The band announced an indefinite pause in 2012.
