Archive material and source history
Imbalança formed in Salvador, Bahia in 1999. The band's sound draws from Brazilian rhythms like xote, forró, and baião, with Carlinhos Brown on percussion and vocals, Márcia Castro singing, and a rhythm section of Betão, Gilmário Marques, and Paulinho Sacramento.
They released their self-titled debut in 1999 and followed with several albums through the 2000s, including 2004's 'Xote Compassado'. That album's title track became a hit, though its lyrics about love and sexuality drew criticism from some conservative groups at the time.
Another of their songs, 'Pirilampo', appears among their most recognized tracks.
