Impaz formed in São Paulo around 2008, a Brazilian collective that brought together musicians from different backgrounds. Their music pulled from samba, funk, rock, and reggae, creating a sound that was hard to pin down to one style. The group included Leticia Novaes on vocals, Rafael Castro on guitar, Pedro Rosa on bass, and Bruno Pedroso on drums.
In 2010, they released their debut single "As Diferenças," which became a kind of anthem for its message about embracing human diversity. The song's success led to their first album, "Somos Todos Um," the following year. Other tracks like "Caiu Babilônia" and "Jah Mandará" continued in a similar vein, mixing upbeat rhythms with lyrics focused on social themes.
They went on to release two more albums, "Pra Frente, Sempre!" in 2014 and "Juntos Podemos Mais" in 2018. The music kept its blend of styles and its focus on collective action and inclusivity, without ever settling into a predictable formula.
