In Natura formed in São Paulo in the early 1990s, with guitarist Fabio Gouvea and keyboardist Junior Lima as founding members. They drew from Brazilian rhythms like bossa nova and samba alongside jazz influences, creating a sound that was neither strictly traditional nor purely experimental. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1996, followed by records like 'Samba Jazz' in 2000 and 'Sorriso de Flor' in 2003.
Their songs often carried a gentle, melodic quality. Tracks like 'Sorriso de flor' and 'Clareou' show their knack for weaving jazz phrasing with Brazilian harmonic warmth. The band worked with musicians like drummer André Siqueira and bassist Gustavo Assis-Brasil, and vocalist Luciana Alves contributed to some recordings.
Their music stayed rooted in that blend of jazz and Brazilian styles without chasing trends, and they kept a relatively low profile compared to some of their flashier contemporaries.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
