Archive material and source history
Incomarose formed in Havana in 1943 around pianist and composer Pedro Flores. They played boleros and Cuban son, with bassist Orestes Urfé and percussionist Rolando Valdés among the musicians who worked with Flores. Their song 'Amapola' became particularly well-known.
In the 1950s, the band faced censorship from authorities over their lyrics, which dealt with themes like love and social injustice. Some radio stations wouldn't play their music. They kept performing and recording through that period.
Their recordings include songs like 'Bastardos Sin Gloria,' 'Diamantes,' and 'Fe.' After Flores died in 1978, the group disbanded.
