Ini formed in Lagos in 2015, with Juwon Ogungbe on vocals, Abayomi Awonuga on drums, Olawale Adebayo on bass, and Olamide Oshundara on keyboards. They started playing live shows around the city, building a local following while dealing with the usual early financial struggles of a new band.

Their 2018 single 'Password' became a hit, though it also drew some criticism from people who thought it was about cybercrime. The band said it was really a love song. It led to more attention and festival bookings, and they put out an album called 'Apollo' the next year.

Other songs like 'Reza Braba' and 'Babilônia' kept their sound rooted in Afrobeat with pop touches, and they worked with artists like Davido and Wizkid. They released 'The Vault' in 2022, a set of older tracks and collaborations.
