A Jamaican group that found international fame with a movie theme and a simple, unforgettable hook.
For a quick sense of their range, listen to the foundational 'Tenement Yard' and then the massive, movie-driven hit 'Bad Boys.' That's the span right there.
They're one of those bands where you might not know the name, but you definitely know 'Bad Boys.' That 1987 track became their signature after it was featured in the film of the same name, its 'bad boys, bad boys' chant turning into a global earworm. Before that, their 1974 single 'Tenement Yard' had already marked them as a reggae act with reach beyond Jamaica.
They formed in Kingston in 1968. The original lineup included vocalist Jacob Miller, with brothers Ian and Roger Lewis on drums and keyboards. Their sound evolved from early reggae to the international pop-reggae of 'Bad Boys' and 'Sweat (A La La La La Long)' in the late 80s.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
