Inoue Joe formed in Tokyo in 2007 as a quartet with vocalist and guitarist Inoue Joe, bassist Takuya Takayama, drummer Ryota Tosa, and keyboardist Daisuke Hara. Their debut EP, also called 'Closer,' gave them their first national attention. The title track 'Closer' became their most recognizable song, with its straightforward emotional pull finding an audience.
After drummer Ryota Tosa left in 2012, the band brought in Akira Kobayashi on drums and Yoshiki Watanabe on bass. They kept recording, with songs like 'Kaze No Gotoku' and 'Hello!' appearing in their catalog alongside 'Closer.'
Their work drew some media scrutiny around 2013, though the specifics of that period are less documented than the music itself. They continued putting out material, including the track 'Afterglow.'
