Inprophecy formed in Athens, Greece in 1997 with vocalist Babis Alexiadis, guitarist Nick Raptakis, bassist George Diamantopoulos, and drummer John Thomoglou. They started playing progressive metal that drew from classical, jazz, and ethnic sounds, which took some time to find its audience.
Their debut album 'Genesis' came out in 1999, followed by 'The Alpha and the Omega' in 2003 and a self-titled album in 2006. They've released seven studio albums total, including tracks like 'Mindslaves' that show their technical approach to the genre.
Some listeners found their lyrics politically charged or too abstract, but the band kept working on their particular blend of progressive metal without changing course much. Their catalog runs from more atmospheric pieces to heavier material, but stays rooted in that detailed, layered style they established early on.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
