Dana International is an Israeli singer who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1998 with her song "Diva." Born Sharon Cohen in Tel Aviv in 1969, she underwent gender reassignment surgery in the early 1990s, becoming one of the first publicly transgender performers in the Middle East.
Her Eurovision victory with "Diva" brought her international attention, with the song's lyrics becoming something of an anthem. She returned to Eurovision in 2011 with "La Vita Bella," which charted well in several European countries.
Her catalog includes songs like "If You Don't Love Me The Way I Am," "Shir K'damsh'nati," and "Magnuna." She has faced criticism in Israel over her transgender identity but has continued performing.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
