Iran Paes de Andrade was born in Criciúma, Santa Catarina in 1958. He started performing in the early 1980s with a band called Os Seresteiros, playing both traditional folk songs and his own material.
In 1984 he put out his first solo album, Canções de Amor. One of his better-known tracks is Hino de Catarina/ce, a collaboration with Professor Vilmar Nunes that came out in 1998.
