Irmãos do Baião

Irmãos do Baião formed in 1996 around brothers Edilson and Elenízio Medeiros, playing forró from Brazil's northeast. Their music worked with the traditional rhythms of that region, but they found an audience beyond it. Songs like 'A Solidão' and 'Forró de Luxo' became familiar on radio and at parties.

Edilson handled vocals and zabumba, while Elenízio played accordion. The group's lineup included Fernando Silva on triangle and Antônio José on bass, giving their sound its percussive drive and steady bottom end. They recorded for over two decades, putting out albums that stuck to the forró framework without much fuss.

Their lyrics sometimes touched on everyday struggles in the countryside, which drew both fans and some criticism. But mostly, people knew them for straightforward, danceable tunes. 'Perdão' and 'Sem Teu Amor' were other songs that kept turning up in their setlists and on compilations.
