Isaac Brasil

Isaac Brasil came from the rural backlands of Goiás, Brazil, where he started playing his father's guitar and learning traditional sertanejo music. In the 1980s, he released his debut album "Sertão Sem Lei" and began gaining attention for his raw, straightforward approach to country storytelling.

His song "Eu, a Viola e Deus" came out in 1988 and became his most recognized work. It's a spare, reflective ballad that deals with mortality and spirituality, anchored by Brasil's plain delivery and acoustic guitar. Other songs like "Viola Quebrada" and "Cevando o Amargo" followed a similar path, unadorned, personal, and rooted in sertanejo tradition.

Brasil developed a reputation as an outspoken figure whose lyrics sometimes drew criticism from religious groups, but he maintained a loyal following who appreciated his directness. He kept recording for decades, working within the same musical territory he'd established early on.
