Isaac Butler was born in 1986 in the Pacific Northwest. He started writing and performing songs early on, drawing from folk influences like Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell, as well as the more introspective work of Elliott Smith and Radiohead's atmospheric sound.
In 2007, he joined Justin Vernon and Sean Carey to form Bon Iver. Butler contributed to the band's early albums, including 'For Emma, Forever Ago,' which helped establish their ethereal, minimalist sound. He left the group in 2011 to work on his own material.
His solo debut 'Endless Isles' came out in 2015, blending folk with ambient and experimental touches. One of his best-known tracks is 'Moon Song,' a sparse, haunting piece that has been covered by other artists and used in film and television.
