Isis Broken formed in São Paulo in 2006 as a trio with Rodrigo Tavares on vocals and guitar, Andre Bedurê on bass, and Marcos Boldrini on drums. They put out their first album, Pescador de Ilusões, in 2008, followed by Sertão in 2010 and Flores in 2013. Their sound had a rock and folk feel with acoustic textures, and Tavares wrote lyrics that leaned toward the introspective.
In 2016 they released Ararinha da Viola, which included the song O Clã. That album became their breakthrough, with the title track getting attention nationally. The band's music sometimes drew criticism for being unconventional, but they kept working on their own terms without much concern for commercial pressures.
