Islander formed around Michael Ian Cummings and Micah Premnath in 2005, later adding Ryan Wood, Jonathan Bucklew, and Adam Lunn. They put out their first album in 2008, followed by three more over the next eight years, including 2016's Power Under Control.
Their songs like "Crazy Crazy World" and "Coconut Dracula" have a folk-rock feel with lyrics that lean into everyday human questions. They've played places like Coachella, and in 2010 there was some talk about similarities in their song "Waves," which they said was coincidence.
They recorded a track called "It's Not Easy Being Human" with Lacey Sturm. It's one of those songs people mention when they talk about the band's straightforward approach to writing about ordinary life.
