Ismael Lo was born in Dogondoutchi, Niger in 1956. He moved to Côte d'Ivoire in 1978, where he performed in local bars while developing his sound. His debut album 'Ndiarogne' came out in 1984, blending Senegalese rhythms with Western influences.
His songs often addressed social issues like poverty and corruption. He also recorded 'Africa Nossa' with Cesária Evora.
Lo's music includes songs like 'Jammu Africa', 'La Femme Sans Haine', and 'Dibi Dibi Rek'. He became known for his guitar work and vocal style that drew from his Griot heritage.
