Her breakthrough came with the song "Iluminada (Balada N.1 Em Sol Menor)," which established her ethereal vocal style. She worked with guitarist Luiz Melodia on the 1973 album "Ithamara Koorax e Luiz Melodia."
Her music drew from Brazilian samba and bossa nova, often with sparse guitar arrangements that highlighted her voice. Songs like "Corpo e Luz (Da ópera Tristão e Isolda)" and "Absolute Lee" show her leaning toward introspective themes with a melancholic touch.
She released several albums through the 1970s and early 1980s, including "Rainha do Samba" in 1968 and "Quero Viver" in 1981. Other musicians who played with her included Zé Bodega on guitar, Pedro Paulo on bass, and Beto Cazes on drums.
