Ivandro formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1994, led by singer-songwriter Ivo Meirelles. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1996 and included the song 'Lua,' which became a significant ballad in Brazilian music.
Meirelles grew up with samba and bossa nova influences from his father, a sambista. The band's lyrics often touched on love and social themes, which sometimes drew criticism alongside their popularity.
They released several albums through the 2000s, including 'Ciranda da Lua' in 1997 and 'O Mar Serenou' in 1999. Other songs like 'Monarquia' and 'Moça' continued their blend of Brazilian rhythms with straightforward, melodic writing.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
