Jota Safadinho do Forró is the stage name of José Romildo de Sousa, born in 1989 in Russas, Ceará. He came up in the northeastern Brazilian forró scene, a dance music tradition from that region. His brother Romário Safadinho has performed with him at times.
In 2016, his single 'Espero Por Você' broke through nationally. That track, along with others like 'Tchau Brigado' and 'Criado Na Roça,' helped build his audience. His music tends to mix forró rhythms with more contemporary pop touches.
There was a plagiarism accusation in 2020 over a song called 'Mete a Louca,' which led to a legal dispute. He's kept releasing music through it, including songs like 'Cerveja Com Cachaça' and 'Nosso Amor.'
