Jabah Jam

Jabah Jam formed in Salvador, Bahia in 1996 with Ruddy Gomes on vocals, Alessandro Souza on guitar, and Paulo Gondim on drums. They started playing local bars and festivals, working through the usual early struggles of a new band.

Their 2003 album "De Coroados a Ilha do Mel" gave them a wider audience. The title track, which traces a route from Salvador to Ilha do Mel, became their most recognizable song. The album's mix of reggae rhythms and Brazilian textures found listeners both at home and abroad.

In 2009, their song "Mulher" drew some criticism over its lyrics, though the band maintained it was meant as a statement about women's empowerment. They kept making music after that, but the details of their later work and collaborations aren't clearly documented here.
