Jacaré formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1998 with Marquinhos Diniz on vocals, Peu Sousa on guitar, Bruno Dourado on bass, and Marlon Sette on drums. Their debut album came out in 2003, and it included the song "Melodia Linda," which became their most recognizable track.
Their music pulls from samba, reggae, and funk, a mix that gave them a distinct place in Brazil's late-90s scene. Beyond "Melodia Linda," songs like "Você É Um Sonho" and "Saudade de Você" carried that same blend of rhythm and melody.
After their first album, they put out records fairly regularly through the 2000s and 2010s, including "Samba Reggae Funk" in 2005 and "Tempo de Ser Feliz" in 2014. They've worked with other Brazilian artists like Gilberto Gil and Seu Jorge along the way.
