Jack Rabisco formed in Salvador, Bahia in 1992 with vocalist Edgard Scandurra, guitarist Fábio Cascadura, bassist Mauro Santa Cecília, and drummer Hugo Furacão. Their music was often considered too dark for mainstream radio, with lyrics that touched on difficult subjects. They built a following through live shows and underground releases.
Their 1995 album "Estado Mórbido" gave them their most recognized song of the same name. The track's haunting quality and Scandurra's delivery connected with listeners who found something genuine in its expression of darker emotions. Another song, "Homens," appeared in their catalog around the same period.
They put out several albums through the late 1990s and early 2000s, including "Mapa das Nuvens" in 1997 and "Aquário" in 2001. Scandurra's arrest on drug charges in 2001 added to the band's complicated public image. Their work remained divisive, appealing to some for its raw approach while pushing others away.
