Background notes

Archive material and source history

Jackal formed in London in the late 1990s with Jack Kane on vocals, Jake Hayes on guitar, Sam Stone on bass, and Tom Grey on drums. Their debut album 'Primal Scream' came out in 2002, followed by 'Eternal Flame' in 2005. The single 'Hot Love' from that second album got them wider attention, though some found its lyrics provocative. Other songs from around that time include 'A Safe Look In Mirrors' and 'Being Alone'.

Drummer Tom Grey left in 2008 and was replaced by Billy Rhodes, who they called Bones. Bassist Sam Stone departed in 2010, and Mia Blackwood joined on bass. The band put out 'The Serpent's Kiss' in 2015 and 'Dance with the Devil' in 2020. Their catalog also includes tracks like 'Alone / Stealin' Hearts' and 'Breakin' Time'.
