Jackass

Jackass formed in Salvador, Brazil in the mid-1990s, originally calling themselves Os Caras de Pau. The group included vocalist and guitarist Tadeu Patolla, bassist Juninho, and drummer Marquinhos. Their early shows in their hometown developed a following for their raw, energetic approach.

In 1997 they put out their first album, "Fora da Lei," which contained the track "Idiota." That song caught on in Brazil with its catchy melody and irreverent lyrics, becoming something of an anthem for a certain segment of youth at the time. The band's popularity grew from there, leading to tours outside Brazil.

Their concerts were known for being chaotic, with mosh pits and crowd surfing. Some critics took issue with their lyrics and rebellious image, suggesting they promoted a negative view of Brazilian youth. But "Idiota" remained a cultural touchstone, its lyrics poking at societal norms while celebrating individuality. It became their most recognizable song.
