He kept recording through the 1960s and 1970s, putting out albums like "Jackie Thomas Sings the Blues" and "Love Walked Right In." Other songs in his catalog include "Black Velvet," "Dreams," and a version of "Son Of A Preacher Man," though none matched the commercial reach of "Angel."
Some listeners at the time thought "Angel" sounded similar to earlier songs, which led to talk about plagiarism, but those claims didn't stick. The track is still the one most people know him by.
