Jagwar Ma formed in Sydney in 2011, with Jono Ma, Gabriel Winterfield, and Matt Evans as the original members. Their name references a mystical feline goddess from Hindu mythology. Early on, they were playing shows that mixed shoegaze textures with electronic elements, which gave them a particular sound right from the start.
Their debut EP 'Howlin'' came out in 2012 and got some positive attention. They followed it with another EP called 'The Throw,' which is also the title of one of their songs. These releases built them a following with a sound built around shimmering synths, reverbed guitars, and vocals that floated through the mix.
In 2016, they put out a sophomore album, also titled 'Howlin'.' This record showed them working with more ambient textures and some world music influences, marking a shift from their earlier material.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
