Jahdirá formed in Salvador, Bahia in 1995, bringing together Afro-Brazilian rhythms with rock and reggae. The band included Alanzinho 100% on lead vocals, Lúcio Alves on guitar, Danilo Jorge on bass, and Damião Silva on drums. Their debut album came out that same year.
Their 1998 album 'Entre o Céu e o Inferno' featured the song 'As Tranças de Um Careca,' which became one of their better-known tracks. They followed it with 'Desde o Primeiro Mundo' in 2000 and a live album in 2003. Other songs in their catalog include 'Pão Dormido' and 'Vamos orar.'
They were seen by some as giving voice to certain cultural and political conversations happening in Brazil during those years.
