Jahel Marçal Santos is a Brazilian singer-songwriter from Rio de Janeiro. He grew up in a musical household where he heard both traditional Brazilian rhythms and Western classical music, and started playing guitar and piano early on.
In the early 2000s, his debut album brought attention with what people called a unique vocal style and introspective lyrics. Songs like 'Algo Novo' and 'Totalmente Teu' became known to his listeners.
His music has sometimes been at odds with his public statements. During one live performance, he spoke against political corruption, and several radio stations temporarily stopped playing his songs afterward.
He has worked with other artists including Jorge Mautner, Caetano Veloso, and Tom Zé, and released albums like 'Outro Lado' and 'Aurora'.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
