Jaime López was born in Mexico City in 1954 and grew up listening to American blues singers like Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf. In the late 1970s, he formed Jaime López y La Orquesta Basura, a band that mixed blues with Mexican folk, punk, and rockabilly. Their lyrics often dealt with poverty and social issues.
He released albums like La Danza de los Condenados in 1981 and De la Calle in 1993. One of his best-known songs is 'Blue Demon Blues,' a tribute to the Mexican wrestler Blue Demon. Other tracks include 'Amar a Martha Era Mi Tarea' and 'Cruel Carrusel.'
López's outspoken style sometimes drew criticism in Mexico, but he kept working with a changing group of musicians. He recorded into the late 1990s with albums like El Sueño de los Insectos.
