These Things

I was born in a lovely family

Momma loved to plan

Poppa was a working man

Trying to understand

He'd come home suit and tie briefcase in hand

Exhausted from a days work he could hardly stand

But never would he ever try to be

Anything besides the best father to me

And whether it was sports school or trying to sing

He would say son try to remember these things

. Momma would read the bible late at night

I would listen by the tableside

Even if she was tired from a days work

She would still tell me of all its worth

See son there is one thing you need to know

Keep him first wherever you go
