Jamirulus formed in 1998 in Salvador, Bahia, with four friends: Jamil Maluf, Alexandre Nunes, Marcos Venâncio, and Yuri Costa. They started playing in local bars and clubs, mixing their love of music with the energy of Brazilian football culture. Their first single, "Dias de Jogo," came out in 2002 and caught on quickly with fans, especially around that year's World Cup.
Their sound pulls from samba, reggae, and axé, heard on tracks like "Santos Profanos" and "Zé da Feira." They've put out six albums, including Samba Futebol Clube in 2006 and Festa in 2018. Their music has been used in films and TV shows, and they've played at events like the FIFA World Cup and Olympic Games.
In 2010, there was some noise about their song "O Gol" sounding similar to another artist's work, which the band denied. They kept recording through it, with albums like Brasil Bom de Bola in 2014. Songs like "Os Medos" and "Vou Pra Praia" show their range, from upbeat party tunes to more reflective moments.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
