Jan Howard was born Janice Lee York in 1929. She moved to Nashville in 1952 and started writing songs for other artists before signing with Decca Records in 1958. Her first single was 'Someday You'll Know.'

In 1960, 'The One You Slip Around With' became a national hit. She followed it with songs like 'Bad Seed' and 'Evil on Your Mind.' She also recorded 'Ages And Ages Ago' and 'You And Me And Tears And Roses,' which appear among her top songs.

Howard worked closely with Bill Anderson on duets like 'For Lovin' Me' and 'Years Ago.' She faced personal challenges with alcoholism and addiction, and her divorce from Anderson in 1976 was public. Despite these struggles, she kept recording for decades.

Her discography includes albums such as 'Jan Howard Sings' from 1960 and 'Love Your Memory' from 1971. She was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2012.
