Jan Plestenjak was born in Kranj, Slovenia in 1973. He started playing accordion at seven and formed his first band, D'Boys, as a teenager. In 1999 he released his debut solo album "Amore Mio," which established him as a working musician in Slovenia. His 2002 follow-up "Ona Sanja o Meni" built on that early momentum.
His songs like "Pustil Ti Bom Sanje," "Mala Vas," and "7 Let Nazaj" became familiar radio presences in Slovenia. He worked with musicians including bassist Jure Rozman, drummer Matej Mršnik, and guitarist Primož Malenšek. In 2003 his song "Dekle Moje" drew some radio bans for its lyrics, though his albums kept coming.
He released records fairly steadily through the 2000s and 2010s, including "U Poletju," "9," "V Sredi Ljubezni," and later collections like "Največje Uspešnice." His material often dealt with love and personal reflection, delivered in a plainspoken Slovenian pop style that found a consistent audience at home.
