He's one of those voices that just stuck around in Dutch pop. The 2007 single 'Cupido' was a genuine hit, not just at home but in a few other countries too. You can hear that same earnest, melodic touch in later songs like 'Engel Op Aarde' and 'Ik Zing Dit Lied Voor Jou Alleen'.

He started in local choirs in Volendam, then joined the boy band De Toppers in 1999. After going solo in 2006 with 'Op Weg Naar Jou,' he kept putting out albums, even after vocal cord surgery in 2010.

Jan Smit was born in 1985 in Volendam, a fishing village in the Netherlands. He started performing in local children's choirs and joined the Dutch boy band De Toppers in 1999. In 2006, he went solo with his debut album 'Op Weg Naar Jou.'

His 2007 song 'Cupido' became a major hit in the Netherlands and several other countries. Some of his other well-known songs include 'Als de Morgen is Gekomen,' 'Eens Per Jaar,' and 'Engel Op Aarde.' He's worked with other Dutch artists like Nick & Simon and Marco Borsato.

In 2010, Smit had surgery for a vocal cord polyp. He's released several albums since his debut, including 'Vrienden' in 2012 and 'Adem naar Adem' in 2020.
