Paper Cuts

I woke up today to find

This tunnel vision left me blind

With no sense of where to go

There's paper cuts on both my hands

Flipping through these books trying to understand

I don't, so I just go with the flow

There's an open door with a clenched fist

And crooked signs that I might have missed

Some, somewhere along the way

As I close my eyes I disappear

To a place in time far from here

I run, but I can't outrun today

There's lightning in the sky

I'm on the road

There's an overwhelming urge as she explodes

All my life been waiting to arrive

It's not the destination it's the drive

I woke up with a bloody nose

And bruises on my feet and toes

Been kicking and screaming at the wall

Strange how you feel most alive

When you're broken down trying to survive

You cry and curl up into a ball

Somewhere in the solitude

Silence creeps up in front of you

For once there's nothing left to lose

As I stare into the empty space

Everything seems to dissipate

Even if I could I wouldn't want to move

Has it been 30 days or 30 years

I call, get you on the phone
