Ze bleven weg, eerst eentje, later meer
Het werden er steeds minder elke keer;
Nou ja, aan zijn gastvrijheid lag het niet
Hij drinkt; de ene vriend die altijd bleef
Drinkt met hem mee en hij zegt: "Proost vriend, kijk
Al ons bewegen gaat precies gelijk
En zie je, dat ik nauwelijks nog beef?"
De fles is bijna leeg, de kamer gaat
Heel langzaam deinen als een grote zee
Hij zwaait nog en zijn spiegelbeeld zwaait mee
Totdat hij zich tenslotte zinken laat
